dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, United Statesbeautiful textures and gritty shadows here Grant. love these lines and shapes -- what is a holgaroid? i assume it is part holga? please do tell! and does this camera give you the natural corner vignetting? awesome and thank you for that detailed description of the 'russian tank camera'! ;) 19 Jul 2008 5:06am @dj.tigersprout: thanks dj. you're right, a holgaroid is half holga and half polaroid. polaroid makes a special back that fits on holgas. in my experience, it creates even more vignetting than holgas with 120 film. it's a fun combination, but i suppose may be obsolete soon if the film isn't available. there are two versions of the back. i have an older version, and the film for it is already out of production. (i have a few boxes left in my fridge.) Matt Sutton from Sydney, Australiabeautiful Grant!!!!!!! 19 Jul 2008 5:33am @Matt Sutton: thanks matt! that's a great quote. Siam from Chaingrai, ThailandA black and white, in this city ambience, silence, shade, dimension of the architecture of light, very difficult to accomplish, congratulations … 19 Jul 2008 8:15am @Siam: thank you siam. i wish i could express my thought about photographs as well as you do. Kylie Greenan from Richmond, AustraliaGreat lines... this looks fantastic in B&W, lovely light and tones, well done Grant! 19 Jul 2008 8:25am @Kylie Greenan: thanks kylie! Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomLike all the images in your series this also has a unique quality, and looks older than it actually is, in this respect it is like looking back in time - how it might of been - from a modern viewpoint. Excellent Grant. 19 Jul 2008 10:18am @Observing: that's a really interesting comment. i appreciate it. Matt Sutton from Sydney, Australiayeah Grant that quote is from a song from one of my Fav Bands, Ten Years After. I've always loved that ! 19 Jul 2008 1:40pm @Matt Sutton: i googled it - just need to listen now! neilanie from Carson, United Statesgreat shot!! i love how you use film.. i like film too but my scanner is whack.. gives low quality. 19 Jul 2008 7:31pm @neilanie: thanks neilanie. too bad about the scanner - i don't know why good film scanners have to be so pricey. Dr. Leonard Yossarian from LONDON, United Kingdomreminds me of childhood and the days of nothing but film. Aaah, I can smell the stop-bath now 19 Jul 2008 8:56pm @Dr. Leonard Yossarian: it's a great smell, don't you think? Zorilla from H, T & E, United KingdomI don't know what you were intending to do, but this looks like a contemporary reimagining of what is usually considred to be the first photograph ever taken - check out Nicephore Niepce's 1826 rooftop image. What do you reckon? 20 Jul 2008 1:22pm @Zorilla: i know the picture, and i see what you mean. i'm fascinated by the earliest photographs, but any similarity is purely accidental. @Paul van der Meer: thanks paul! Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesGreat old timey look. How did you get up there? 24 Jul 2008 3:01pm @Twelvebit: i'm actually standing at ground level looking down. it's a complicated building, with surprising nooks and crannies everywhere. |
