dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Stateswow -- is this abandoned? beautiful textures here -- and vines! i love the peeling paint from the wood... very captivating indeed! love the round stoop too -- and the darkened windows! 9 Sep 2008 6:14am @dj.tigersprout: it does seem to be abandoned, and it's really too bad. it must have been something in it's time. lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaYou have to tell us more about this house! How did it get that name? did you go in? how long has it been abandoned? Did you take any long shots? 9 Sep 2008 7:43am @lisa v: well, it's not really the name of the house. it's just in the town of white cloud. but white cloud is an amazing town - once an incredibly prosperous river town with a vibrant night life, it is now just a fraction of that. i do have a couple long shots. maybe i'll post one soon. GJC from Kyoto, JapanI love these kinds of shots that abstract out buildings. The tones are haunting. Nice work. 9 Sep 2008 12:33pm @GJC: thanks gjc sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesWow, what a find. Definitely my kind of shot:-) I like how you focused in on the door. 9 Sep 2008 2:04pm @sherri: thanks sherri Mindy from United StatesThe landscapers must be on vacation. I hope they're having a great time. Glad you captured this before they got back. Nicely framed. 9 Sep 2008 3:30pm @Mindy: mindy, every plant was carefully planned. @NILLA: a 6th sense for decay! thanks nilla Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesI like this entropy! Did you enter the houses or are they inaccessible? 9 Sep 2008 6:18pm @Howard F.: this one is actually surrounded by occupied houses, and pretty well locked up. we explored a more isolated abandoned house nearby earlier this month though (photos in the works). Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomA spooky house, and one with a history. Great photo, I like the weeds at the door. 9 Sep 2008 10:01pm @Observing: you're right mike. this whole town has an amazing history. Stovepipe from Ames, Iowa, United StatesI like how this picture strikes twice, starting out merely rustic, until the eye is drawn into the doorway, away from the best light, and finds the overgrowth there which turns the mood more forbidding. 9 Sep 2008 10:51pm @Stovepipe: well thanks. i appreciate the careful look. P.J. from Delhi, United StatesIt's shots like this that really only work with film and black and white. Well done. 10 Sep 2008 2:58am @P.J.: well, i tend to agree. thanks p.j. Teresa from Mountain View, United StatesReally nice shadows and light. But I love the way you composed the shot with the weeds running along the bottom of the frame! Nice! 10 Sep 2008 4:31am @Teresa: thanks teresa bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaFantastic! This is like finding a hidden treasure! I love how you have photographed this! Beauty! 10 Sep 2008 4:34am @bluechameleon: it's an amazing place! Lucca from Cologne, GermanyI'd like to go with you for an afternoom just to watch how you take your wonderful photos. 12 Sep 2008 10:18pm @Lucca: glad to have you lucca, any time! Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesInteresting that Sherri says it's her kind of shot because that's what I thought too when I first looked at the image. 16 Sep 2008 3:18am @Twelvebit: finding these places is like finding gold to me. Reiner from Brensbach, GermanyI like your photos very much and this one is definitely my favorite. Wonderful compositon, awesome image. 25 Sep 2008 7:18am @Reiner: thanks very much reiner. i'm enjoying your photos very much. i'll try not to hold it against you that you have the same last name as my ex-wife :-) |
