Nill@ from County Östergötland, SwedenSeveral different roofs, makes the photo interesting! A lot of tares in the asphalt and the tree frames the picture in a nice way. 19 Oct 2008 7:25am Alejandro Caballero from Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona, SpainAsunto: Ausencia viernes y sabado. 19 Oct 2008 8:12am GJC from Kyoto, JapanLike the massings here -- good set of blocks to make an interesting composition. 19 Oct 2008 10:55am sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesSuperb capture of this old structure. The light and shadows are exceptional...love it in greyscale. 19 Oct 2008 1:22pm daina from New York, United StatesThese empty places are representative of a society, a geographical place. And somehow they have a timeless feel for me - a certain Americana that continues to exist even as time passes it by. Your images never feel arbitrary - they feel representative of something important in our society without exactly stating what it is. 19 Oct 2008 2:10pm @daina: thanks daina. all these places seem important to me, although i'm not always sure why. don from spokane, United StatesThis makes a fine black and white subject with the near white walls and the deep shadows. Nice composition. A fine print. 19 Oct 2008 3:00pm dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Statesbeautiful shot here mate -- love the diagonal moving from left corner to right background... an excellent visual slant! oh -- hey mate -- do you know Paul? aka PD? he is from the same city as you!! ;) just had the pleasure of making his acquaintance! he is an awesome photographer as well -- though he works in color -- so now we have Kansas represented in b/w and color -- and that is faabulous news! :) 19 Oct 2008 5:56pm @dj.tigersprout: thanks dj. i don't know this paul. in fact, i just realized that the ulr shows up on the version of your comment that i see as i reply. so, i'll have to check out his photos. i appreciate the information. JJ from Jersey City, United Stateswonderful capture of the building love the mix of sunlit and shadowed areas, very cool 19 Oct 2008 7:00pm @JJ: thanks jj! Paul van der Meer from Valkenswaard, NetherlandsAmazing composition! Like the way you play with black and white Grant!! 19 Oct 2008 7:52pm @Paul van der Meer: thanks paul paolo from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Italyi was looking at the grass on the sidewalk and on the road... looks like an abandoned district !!! 19 Oct 2008 9:13pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomGrant, it's always sunny in that little town of your's, is it similar in size and structure to Stephens 'Loleta' ? Another great shot void of people, it's as though they are all away. 19 Oct 2008 10:52pm @Observing: i don't think so. i've been enjoying stephen's photos very much. overland park has a population of about 150,000 and is growing. also, it's part of a larger area - suburban kansas city, missouri. it would probably be surprising to see what surrounds some of the places in these photos. sparks, kansas, another source of photos for me, on the other hand, is even smaller than loleta. Bill from Belton, United StatesI have to say, I have run out of superlatives! I now just sit back and enjoy each of your amazing shots! 20 Oct 2008 1:09am @Bill: thanks very much bill! bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaThe shadows and light are stunning. 20 Oct 2008 1:04pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesHow funny, they have completely material but have the same roof overhang. 20 Oct 2008 6:46pm @Matt Sutton: :-) thanks matt Rachael from Heber Springs, United StatesFantastic light & perfect symmetry in this photo. I enjoy sketching building like this, but I dress them up & make them pretty. 21 Oct 2008 11:46pm |
