Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomThat's a fine looking house, maybe too close to the road? Nice balanced shot Grant. 3 Nov 2008 6:21am @Observing: you may be right. i took some of this that i haven't developed yet. i hadn't used the kiev in a long time, and forgot that it gives no indication that the film has run out. so i kept shooting, not knowing how many of the shots were missed! Matt Sutton from Sydney, Australiabeautifully presented work Grant. cropped wonderfully by the overhead wires and double painted road lines. the wires on the left side of the house draw me in. well done shadow-lurker. Your geometry would make HCB proud !! 3 Nov 2008 6:32am @Matt Sutton: you're too kind! Bill from Belton, United StatesAll of what Matt said.... and as always, I just like it! 3 Nov 2008 7:06am @rhys: thanks rhys. hopper's the man, as far as i'm concerned, so i'm especially flattered. kerfendal from Paris, Francesome white lines give the whole strength to this photo, very well composed. 3 Nov 2008 1:44pm cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelIt is very American in feel - a large silent wooden house. It looks lonely somehow. By rental house do you mean it's for holidaymakers or for regular families to rent and live in? 3 Nov 2008 1:57pm @cat: good question cat - rent for families to live in. there's nothing anywhere near that would fit with a holiday :-) daina from New York, United StatesI always have to stop and think when viewing your photos. There is the initiation reaction of recognition and appreciation and then comes the why – why is this so representative, why does it express more than the elements of the picture contain? This house is like a hundred thousand houses that one finds familiar instantly, and yet you make it stand out to such a degree that it seems different somehow – as if it were the model that all the others were patterned after. Anyway – will stop blathering! Involving image as usual… 3 Nov 2008 3:06pm @daina: i always look forward to your comments daina. they're about as far from blathering as i can imagine. thanks. Nilla from County Östergötland, SwedenI thought just like kerfendal from Paris, France also before I´d red the comments. 3 Nov 2008 5:11pm don from spokane, United StatesA fine looking woof frame house which appears well painted and ready to rent. My town has some upscale areas with very expensivel homes, but we have blocks and blocks of housing in this category. Good processing. 3 Nov 2008 5:44pm Reiner from Brensbach, GermanyThe house looks really good. I Like it, cause it remainds somehow me on buildings in old movies. Well captured. 3 Nov 2008 6:28pm Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesClean bright whites and crisp blacks - beautiful tonality. 3 Nov 2008 6:35pm Marcie from United StatesLove the simplicity..the clean and clear lines..the b&w processing. Very nice! 3 Nov 2008 8:51pm ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United Statessince all the intelligent comments have been made, "forgot that it gives no indication that the film has run out". shootin away in luckenbach one time with a buddy who said afterward, "had so much fun...think i'll put film in next time". seriously! 3 Nov 2008 10:31pm @ordinaryimages: makes me feel a little better, and i love it that it happened in luckenbach. now you've got me singing. we'll see one of "the boys," willie, on the 26th. each time, we wonder how many shows he's got left in him. lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaI love american architecture, ours is so plain and characterless compared to yours. When I was a renter it would've thrilled me to have come across a place like this to apply for. 3 Nov 2008 10:54pm @lisa v: i'm sure you could negotiate a great deal on this house lisa... Polydactyle from Montréal, CanadaYou kill me again. You have a great and original eye g. Simple and efficient. The b/w and frame it's perfect too. 4 Nov 2008 12:08am @Polydactyle: thanks p! JJ from Jersey City, United Statesyou have a wonderful knack for taking what most of us would just see as an average house and then capture it in a way that makes us, well makes me rethink the way i see things, beautiful B&W capture 4 Nov 2008 1:25am @JJ: thanks jj. i appreciate it. John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United StatesA cozy looking house, lovely tones, especially like the contrasting white frames. Excellent job framing this shot. 4 Nov 2008 1:34am sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesLooks like somebody remodeled this house recently. I really like how you've captured all the power lines instead of trying to avoid them. The shadows on the road look great. 4 Nov 2008 1:57am @sherri: thanks sherri. Mindy from United StatesAnother compelling capture, but there's a somewhat sterile feel to this house. Incidentally, in my neck of the woods, such a house would rent for more than $2,000 a month. 4 Nov 2008 7:26am @Mindy: thanks mindy. it was actually that feel that caught my attention - a house stripped of any of the little touches that might connect it to a particular person. by the way, i'm guessing rent on this house in its neighborhood would be less than half the amount you mentioned. Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesOMG, I am looking at my own house! 4 Nov 2008 8:28am @Howard F.: really? you should give us a photo sometime. Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesReally like the tones in this one, especially of the house. Mindy reminds me of why, though I like many things about California, I would never live there --no way I'd spend $2,000 a month on a house like this one. My mortgage on a much nicer and larger house than this one, in a very good neighborhood, isn't even close to $2,000. In fact, I'd choke on paying $1,000 a month to rent this, but you're probably right that $1,000 a month is what it goes for. $24,000 a year --that would be something like a $400,000 mortgage. I don't know what the market is there in Kansas, but this house shouldn't sell for more than $120,000, and I wouldn't pay more than about $90 K myself. 4 Nov 2008 11:01pm @Twelvebit: the differences in cost can be amazing. my ex is from suburban philadelphia. i was continually shocked by real estate costs there, especially given that i didn't like it there :-) bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaIt feels so lonely and isolated, yet inviting. I really like the shadows creeping across the road. 5 Nov 2008 5:14am @bluechameleon: that's the combination that i felt. Teresa from Mountain View, United States$1000 a month will get you a one room studio here in Mountain View. Not a one bedroom just one room with four walls. I"m not complainin' I'm just sayin'. Sweet home California. 10 Nov 2008 4:39am @Teresa: i worked for a while in college days as a busboy/dishwasher in aspen. the rents were similar, but i must admit the views were amazing. |
