Zygene from morlaix, FranceUne lumière et un noir et blanc de toute beauté, j’adore l’ambiance qui se dégage 21 Nov 2008 6:49am Mindy from United StatesExcellent compo. Love the contrast between 'nature' in foreground and large block-like apartment buildings in background. Well seen. 21 Nov 2008 7:24am kerfendal from Paris, FranceWonderful pic, the light very strong give a special mood to this urban landsacpe 21 Nov 2008 8:23am Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesFabulous long winter shadow. 21 Nov 2008 9:49am cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelThe light and shadows are just lovely. 21 Nov 2008 10:46am daina from New York, United StatesOnce again I see your eye for the generic of our time. The apartments behind the trees are so anonymous and part of the urban landscape around the world (as Cat says they are even in England) The apt. building is akin to the empty or closed store fronts that we are so familiar with in your work. That may be a bustling apt. house for all we know yet through your lens we see it already empty, quiet and a part of the past. Love your shadows - you have made more aware of shadows, not that I did not see them before, but you have made me realize how strong an element they can be. 21 Nov 2008 2:40pm @daina: thanks daina. these apartments are a bit strange to me. they're just a few blocks from my house, and are the tallest buildings around. they seem mostly occupied by elderly people, many of them eastern european. i have no idea how they've settled here in this building. but, it does add a bit of color to the neighborhood. ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United Statesimagine being inside, looking out. there's a photographer there, grant longshadow i believe is his name. why is he watching us? 21 Nov 2008 3:05pm @ordinaryimages: hah! i think lots of people have wondered that sort of think about me. don from spokane, United StatesI like the light trunks on these trees and the general processing of the image. Well done. 21 Nov 2008 4:01pm don from spokane, United StatesI like the bright trunks on these trees and the general processing of the image. Well done. 21 Nov 2008 4:03pm Mitch from Triangle, United StatesI looked at this and some of your other pictures; you have a special touch with light and shadows. I went to your "about" page to see if you are a pro or just an artistic person. I love the picture on your "about" page and in a way it tells a lot about you. It is really nice to see some analog pictures. Mitch 21 Nov 2008 4:56pm @Mitch: thanks mitch, i really appreciate your comment. those other shadows are two of my three kids. yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greeceexcellent image - I think that is a night shot - excellent shadows and background 21 Nov 2008 4:58pm Gary from Cochise County, United StatesI like the way the windows are like other trees growing up in the backround. Great shot. 21 Nov 2008 7:12pm @Alejandro Caballero: thank you alex. your new site is very impressive! Denis from A giant black hole filled with lights, TokelauNice perspective, nice shadow 21 Nov 2008 7:40pm Kheoh Yee Wei from Kuala Lumpur, MalaysiaThis has a sense and feels of urban jungle ! 21 Nov 2008 8:55pm Bill from Belton, United StatesI love the "spotlighted" trees. Another remarkable image 21 Nov 2008 9:21pm paolo from Italyi like that highway of light travelled by those two mighty shadows. 21 Nov 2008 11:17pm @paolo: well put. thanks paolo Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomThis is a bit different to your usual work, and seeing these apartments gives it a fresh new look, an almost normal town, as opposed to the decay of the older buildings. Very nice Grant. 21 Nov 2008 11:31pm @Observing: my family would be pleased by your comment :-) dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Statesbeautiful light here Grant -- just wonderful lines!! for some reason, my imagination begins to turn to stories of little red ridinghood!!! maybe its the intriguingly long dark shadows? regardless, this is beautifully scene and taken!! and what a concept -- a bit of both the city and the country all in one! bravo!! 21 Nov 2008 11:33pm @dj.tigersprout: great description dj. i don't know about little red riding hood, but it really is a bit of city and country in one place. lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaI love how moody your shots are, i don't know how you do that, this conveys such feeling, it makes you want to be there in that moment. 22 Nov 2008 1:24am @lisa v: i do it by being a moody guy :-) not really JJ from Jersey City, United Statesthe mix of well lit and darker areas along with the long shadows give such an interesting mood to this aother brilliant capture 22 Nov 2008 3:46am GJC from Kyoto, JapanWhat a wonderful shot. The patterns of light and shadow are particularly good here. 22 Nov 2008 4:18am sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesMagnificent light on those trees...this is beautiful. 23 Nov 2008 4:34am Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesI envy your ability to find a great photo just about anywhere. 25 Nov 2008 4:53am @Twelvebit: that's the best sort of compliment to me. thanks. bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaOh, I would frame this and hang it on my wall, like so many of your shots Grant. This one is so beautiful, the way the light makes those long shadows, the trees against the structure and fallen leaves. The trees near the centre make a kind of archway. Brilliant! 26 Nov 2008 1:27pm @bluechameleon: thanks very much bc |
