Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomSuddenley the mellow afternoon light that you usually have, is turned into a cold and gray one. The white frontage of the house is matching the snow. 10 Dec 2008 5:24am Bill from Belton, United StatesNice shot Grant. The sky really looks like winter. 10 Dec 2008 5:27am ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United Statesinteresting how the missing plank breaks the monotony of the fence. best...jerry 10 Dec 2008 5:33am Matt Sutton from Sydney, Australiaanother rich image Grant. wonderful composition and the snow really makes it for me 10 Dec 2008 5:53am RHYS from United Kingdomthe small remains of snow really top it off- great as ever. 10 Dec 2008 6:29am Michael Skorulski from Cigel, SlovakiaA fine suburban composition. Love the snow. 10 Dec 2008 7:16am Reiner from Brensbach, GermanyIt seems to have snowed intensely there. The parking lot isn't part of the house, isn't it? :-) 10 Dec 2008 8:08am @Reiner: we have had a fair amount of snow, and earlier than usual, it seems. this house is one of my favorite empty houses. it isn't actually abandoned, in that it has a "for sale" sign up, and someone seems to take care of it, but it's been vacant for years. it's slowly being surrounded by fast food restaurants and strip malls - and so, the parking lot. Stovepipe from Ames, Iowa, United StatesI like the line of the snow leading to the edge of the house, halted by the fence. Excellent tonality as always. 10 Dec 2008 1:59pm don from United StatesThis is a pleasant composition with the band of darker fence in contrast with the white of the house. A good one in my book! 10 Dec 2008 3:54pm Albert from Barcelona, SpainBeautiful image, perfect composition and image processing, you have a spectacular gallery, I congratulate you. 10 Dec 2008 7:31pm @Albert: thank you very much albert. i'm enjoying your photos! kerfendal from Paris, Franceperfect composition, the snow has a great importance there 10 Dec 2008 8:09pm Denis from A giant black hole filled with lights, TokelauBeautiful picture in its simplicity and in the sense that it represents the life of so many people... I like it 10 Dec 2008 8:55pm JJ from Jersey City, United Statesanother great capture, I like the fact that one plank is missing just makes the fence and the shot even more interesting 11 Dec 2008 2:31am Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesOh yeah, snow, I've heard of that. It did cool down here last night, but yesterday afternoon it was almost 90. 11 Dec 2008 3:40am @Twelvebit: damn it... the sun is shining this morning, and it's 20... sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesI can't believe how much snow you've had. I like this over the fence shot. 11 Dec 2008 5:20am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaLove this one! The left over snow literally is the icing on this one! 11 Dec 2008 5:23am Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesThe city I live in is famous for craftsman style homes and wooden fences very much like the one shown in the back. In fact, part of my house looks kind of like that roof. So it's sort of weird seeing something I am familiar with but with snow in the foreground. No shadow today, but still a great shot Grant. 11 Dec 2008 9:04am @Howard F.: thanks for the comment howard. it's always interesting to hear about unexpected associations like this. Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesI was in Austin yesterday and the radio was talking about snow in Houston, which isn't all that far away from where I am. Now granted, over night the day before temperatures supposedly got down to freezing. So, I guess some hundred miles further north or so it supposedly snowed, but here yesterday, it was in the 60's --and is again today. 12 Dec 2008 9:04pm Lucca from Cologne, GermanyI very very love this, especially the repetiton of vertical and horizontal lines and tones. 12 Dec 2008 10:18pm dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Statesa wonderfully flat composition (horizontally) all lines and tonalities... but then the empty parking lot with the slanted piles of shoveled snow interject depth into the fore -- where it would be least expected!! a faaabulous play of dimensionality -- akin to the the invention and experimentation of Cubism at the turn of the century... Bravo -- on all accounts!!! 17 Dec 2008 4:38am @dj.tigersprout: thanks very much dj. your comments are always interesting and encouraging. |
