bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaThe roof came down...what a great shot! Interesting that the houses are so close together. No secrets in this neighbourhood. 2 Jan 2009 5:16am ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesIf that's high speed internet strung across the front, I'm interested. best...jerry 2 Jan 2009 6:15am @ordinaryimages: i'm sure they're ready to deal... Bill from Belton, United StatesThis has everything I like Grant. A great subject, exquisite lighting, dark foreboding shadows and perfect composition! It's a favorite! 2 Jan 2009 6:33am @Bill: thanks very much bill! cat from tel aviv, IsraelIt does look brooding - I wonder what happened inside its walls...and why it is abandoned? It's such a lovely looking old house, especially the tiled roof. 2 Jan 2009 7:05am romine from Bucharest, Romaniawell balanced composition. i love the light projection on the house also. congratulation.. 2 Jan 2009 9:28am k@ from Paris, FranceA roof on the ground, that's something original ! Great vision ! 2 Jan 2009 9:40am GJC from Kyoto, JapanNow this is worth an extended looking-at. Such a cool place and I like the way the lines and poles and tree all intersect. And then that porch roof all collapsed. I mean, what's not to love? 2 Jan 2009 10:34am Marcie from United StatesLove the contrasting colors..the quality of light. Nice find!!! 2 Jan 2009 12:45pm Robert from Kingsville, CanadaCan see a large dumpster at the side , hope it's going to be renovated , and not demolished . Old neighbourhoods have loads of character ! 2 Jan 2009 2:08pm @Robert: i agree. however, in this case, the other side of the street is industrial development. daina from United StatesWhat makes this house “brooding” is not just its state of collapse but all that surrounds it - the huge imposing tree and dark sky and the dark buildings next to it. It is as if its surroundings have contributed to its state. The framing is wonderful because all of it adds to the mood –even the parallel lines of the road and wires enclosing the house add tension to the scene. 2 Jan 2009 3:54pm Don Wiley from spokane, United StatesThe old house stands out nicely in this shot. I like the setting of lines and that old tree with the broken branches. Fine post. 2 Jan 2009 3:54pm paolo from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, ItalyOh! looks like there is a roof emerging from the ground (as an elf's kind of cabin) ! 2 Jan 2009 6:22pm EYES WIDE SHUT from United KingdomYou've really captured the atmosphere here, the story that concerns the dilapidated state of the house. So sad, so nicely observed 2 Jan 2009 7:52pm kerfendal from Paris, Franceit's carry the days of the past, strong picture, perfect 2 Jan 2009 9:43pm @kerfendal: thanks very much kerfendal Faëlle from Lyon, FranceAbandonment, not always easy to watch it! the fact that photography! 2 Jan 2009 10:02pm John Maslowski from Dallas, PA, United StatesExcellent shot, great bw processing with fantastic details and contrasts. The closeness of the houses are like many area here in PA. Interesting capture, great job. 2 Jan 2009 10:44pm Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomSuperb image Grant. How could anyone just leave a house like that.....? What's the rest of the neighborhood like ? 3 Jan 2009 1:15am @Observing: thanks mike. this place is surrounded by a couple similar houses, and by pretty heavy industry. not the ideal location. lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaI love this. What are those very heavy looking wires across the top of the photo, they look more heavy duty than the normal power lines. 4 Jan 2009 12:46am @lisa v: thanks lisa. i'm not really sure about the wires. these houses are sandwiched between fairly heavy industrial sites. i don't know it that has anything to do with it or not. Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesNo way, the patio roof laying down just like that?!?! Oh, I would love to do a series of photograph of this street. Great great shot! 5 Jan 2009 9:40pm @Howard F.: i would have like to have gotten more and closer - but scary dogs were on the prowl... |
