GJC from Kyoto, JapanOoooh. I like this one. I think recently you've tried some different approaches, this time and another standing back some and including more background. I think it works well. In part, it makes the sense of the isolation (desolation?) even more powerful. Just a thought. But I really like this one. 11 Jan 2009 5:02am @GJC: thanks gjc. i appreciate the comment. Matt Sutton from Sydney, AustraliaAn amazing sky Grant. A school? looks like a prison yard. I agree with GJC.... desolation 11 Jan 2009 5:57am @Matt Sutton: when i was in elementary school i didn't think there was much difference between it and a prison... ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesLooks like the students were boarders. Nice treatment and good to catch a clean sky. best...jerry 11 Jan 2009 6:07am kerfendal from Paris, Francevery nice pic, the sky is very rich in grey, a real atmosphere in this image, I like the choice of a large with these blacks stains of grass 11 Jan 2009 6:36am zahai from Berlin, GermanyBeautiful atmosphere and light. There's something about abandoned buildings... well done. 11 Jan 2009 10:42am @zahai: thanks zahai Marcie from United StatesWonderful grey-tones. Love the light reflecting off the boarded-up building. 11 Jan 2009 12:02pm Stovepipe from Ames, Iowa, United StatesAn elegant view. I have to ask, does anyone actually LIVE around where you get these pictures?? 11 Jan 2009 12:43pm @Stovepipe: i'm honestly not sure sometimes. FMG from MADRID, Spaingreat light .. the weather is bad .. 11 Jan 2009 1:24pm @FMG: thanks for looking and commenting Polydactyle from Montréal, CanadaExcellent shot. The light is perfect and you sky... Very nice! 11 Jan 2009 1:37pm daina from United StatesThere something eerie about this scene and the light – the gray sky does not seem capable of producing the bright light that is shining on the boarded up windows. And the tower in the distance is reminiscent of a steeple. The sky and the light and the ambiguous mood are terrific in this image. 11 Jan 2009 4:15pm Don Wiley from spokane, United StatesI like the glow of the sunlight providing a nice highlight to the image. Nice one. 11 Jan 2009 4:23pm yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, GreeceI like the sky and the lighting on the building 11 Jan 2009 6:22pm Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesA very well done and highly dramatic capture of this sad, yet evocative scene. 11 Jan 2009 7:41pm david from columbus, ohio, United Statesthat glow to the light is just stunning. brilliant! 11 Jan 2009 8:12pm @david: thanks david! Alex from Sant Boi de Llobregat, Barcelona, SpainUn magnifico encuadre, seguido de un tratamiento algo tenebroso...el cual me encanta y le da mas fuerza a esta pedazo de foto, saludos compañero. 11 Jan 2009 8:36pm @Alex: thanks alex! Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesReally lovely light in this one. I really like the dark foreground. 11 Jan 2009 9:39pm martie from United StatesFantastic! Excellent lighting. It does make me feel alone - and so glad this was not my school! Makes you want to look over your shoulder. Excellent work. 12 Jan 2009 1:38am @martie: thanks martie. and i know what you mean about the school. sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesI'll never understand why structures like this are left standing. Great saturation in this capture. 12 Jan 2009 2:01am @sherri: thanks sherri. i think it's still being used, believe it or not. i meant "empty" only because it was a sunday. dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesLooks like an abandoned school with a "portable" classroom out front. The mood of the shot is heightened by the ominous clouds. Well captured. 12 Jan 2009 2:10am michele from Canadaare you standing on something? the POV seems higher than standing level. i also like the standing back feeling in this one. makes the structure feel even more unapproachable. 12 Jan 2009 3:04am @michele: no, just standing in the street. there is an odd, slight slope to the street. the church in the next day's photo is across the street from this school. Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesAbandoned and post-apocalyptic!!! Great shot. 12 Jan 2009 7:11pm bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaWow...this is stunning! The contrasts and your composition are just beautiful. 13 Jan 2009 4:52am michele from Canadagrant - thanks for explaining - didn't think about the idea of a slope - makes sense. i like the higher perspective. 13 Jan 2009 9:46pm @Damon Schreiber: thanks damon dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, CA, United Statesthe empty foreground rivals the vast sky in the background!! pure timeless heaven!!! 21 Jan 2009 6:14am |
