GJC from Kyoto, JapanVery different for you, and yet I still see your eye with the shadows and that black -- fence? -- half buried and making a great line into the composition. 7 Feb 2009 9:00am @GJC: thanks gjc. this was taken on a walk with my kids and my dad. cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelI'm a fan of black and white nature shots, as when they're done well, like this one is, they provide a wonderful sense of texture and silence. This does have your style, as the above comment pointed out. 7 Feb 2009 10:37am @cat: thanks cat dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesThis is good. The ominous shadow in the foreground makes it seem like someone's sneaking up on you. 7 Feb 2009 1:59pm bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaThis is so beautiful Grant! The textures and details are so refined...the lines of the landscape flow wonderfully. 7 Feb 2009 2:23pm Annie Viguié from Bordeaux, FranceI love this sky !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7 Feb 2009 2:47pm daina from New York, United StatesIs it nature erasing all signs of a human activity and now only traces remain? Or is it an evocative nature shot with dark lines for foreground interest. It feels more like the first to me, but it is probably both, and I like the almost matter of fact mood of the image. 7 Feb 2009 3:16pm @daina: thanks daina. this is a favorite place of mine. but, this old ruin of a once majestic farm is being restored. i'm sure it's for the best, but i'll miss the ruin. ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesGood contrast between the ground shadows and sky. best...jerry 7 Feb 2009 9:25pm Bill from Belton, United StatesIt appears that what was once a model farm has been left to fend for its self. Be that as it may, this is a really well done photo Grant. I like it very much! 8 Feb 2009 12:57am @Bill: thanks bill. actually, this place is in many ways a model of private/private partnership. the old farm is being developed with houses, but most of the old buildings have been or will be restored. the biggest barn is now an elementary school. the mansion gets rented out for weddings and other occasions. my folks live there now. (before it was developed, as a teenager, i used to sneak into the abandoned buildings. i have to admit, i preferred them then.) Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesI love the texture of the sky, it almost looks like a painting. 8 Feb 2009 2:19am @sherri: thank you sherri Robert from Kingsville, CanadaBefore I noticed the title ,I thought to myself, this looks like it could be a Civil War era battlefield, not sure if that is the case. I'm always asking myself what attracted g to this scene. I think it may be the clouds here . 8 Feb 2009 3:51am @Robert: no battles here, but nearby. i'm not sure i could answer that question. thanks for your comments robert. @Matt Sutton: thanks matt Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesFunny, it's not completely unlike Texas, but is at the same time, very different. 8 Feb 2009 11:32pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesI can imagine this place being green with wildflowers when Spring comes. Or is it like this all the time? 9 Feb 2009 9:34pm @Howard F.: no wildflowers, but it does get green michele from Canadai don't know how you do this. if i took an image in the same spot i'm pretty sure it would look flat and boring and yet you make this look very appealing. perhaps it's how the dark line of the wood in the foreground works with the line of hill. 16 Feb 2009 3:12am |
