cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelIt reminds me of archaeological strata, all those horizontal layers revealing a little bit about the area and its inhabitants. I especially like the swirly white letters at the top. 12 Feb 2009 9:35am @cat: interesting you should say that - inside is a five story junk/antique shop. it's a bit like an archaeological site too. Matt Sutton from Sydney, Australiavery artistic Grant. like prehistoric layers of crusts with the curved sign on top 12 Feb 2009 10:17am @Makoto: thanks makoto dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesGreat combination of textures. Apparently they were towed! 12 Feb 2009 2:03pm daina from New York, United StatesA bold composition with prominent textures and contrasting forms. Love the richness of tone and shape. 12 Feb 2009 3:48pm david from columbus, ohio, United Statesi like that you avoided putting the whole sign in there?. makes for a really interesting composition. also maddening...what does it say? :-) 12 Feb 2009 3:56pm @david: it's from a previous life for this building. it says 'furniture.' Don from spokane, United StatesA fine shot for its textures and range of tones. Nice job of seeing this and getting a fine shot of it. 12 Feb 2009 4:05pm EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United KingdomDon't scream, but as the photograph uploaded, my brain saw a layer cake, White creamy top layer with rich chocolate centre, set on a crunchie mid section and down to a light fluffy base! Okay, so it says something about the state of my mind, but it just goes to show that those delicious textures captured so well in this photograph, are powerful enough to set my mind off at a tangent ha ha A cool shot and those textures really ARE divine 12 Feb 2009 4:10pm @EYES WIDE SHUT: i won't scream - i like the comment. in fact, one thing i like about tuning space into two dimensions is the sense of layers or stripes that often results. Mindy from United StatesNot sure I see the layer cake that Eyes Wide Shut does, but I do love the balanced composition and textures. You cut off the signage letters perfectly. 12 Feb 2009 4:57pm @Mindy: thanks mindy sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesToo bad it's private parking. I so wanted this spot:-) Wonderful capture, Grant. 12 Feb 2009 5:10pm @sherri: :-) the irony of the sign is that this is the worst imaginable parking place. @kerfendal: thanks Kerfendal! Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesI see the cake. That wall has seen some things too, and that stone foundation is still solid. Great shot Grant! 12 Feb 2009 10:18pm @Chris Parr: it's a great old building, inside and out. do you know it? it's on 5th street in the river market, the one with the lewis and clark mural on the side. Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomI like the different shades of each band of this image, delicious tones, and the little sign just finishes it perfectly. 12 Feb 2009 11:34pm @Richard_Irwin: thanks richard Bill from Belton, United StatesThe absolutely perfect combination of textures and contrasts Grant. Splendid! I like it! 12 Feb 2009 11:50pm @Bill: thanks as always bill! ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United Statesa gentlemen's club. best...jerry 13 Feb 2009 12:25am Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesGreat composition- I like the various layers from the bottom and leading up to the mystery sign at the top. What does it say? 13 Feb 2009 1:27am @Howard F.: thanks howard. it says 'furniture.' Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United StatesNot simply a documentary...this becomes a wonderful abstract. 13 Feb 2009 4:24am Observing from West Cheshire, United KingdomFabulous shot Grant, I like the almost powdery look of the wall, incredible textured look. Did you use a red filter ? 13 Feb 2009 4:32am @Observing: no, tweeked the contrast the new-fangled way (ps). martie from US, United StatesWonderful! Although I can't imagine too many people wanting to park there - it looks so desolate. 13 Feb 2009 4:51am Annie Viguié from Bordeaux, FranceAs strata in the geology, this photo shows successive layers of different materials. Strata of the visible modern world ! 13 Feb 2009 5:14am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaWow! Fantastic detail and framing here! Bold shot! 13 Feb 2009 1:03pm Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesVery good job of ysing your compositional powers to make an interesting image out of something mundane. And like the archaeological analogy in the previous comments. 13 Feb 2009 4:08pm dik from McAllen, United StatesVery flat, like an abstract painting. We have a similar aesthetic. 13 Feb 2009 9:55pm @dik: yes, i think you're right. god help us. lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaI was so hoping to see an unauthorized vehicle there :) 14 Feb 2009 10:36pm |
