ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesLike the composition and atmosphere. best...jerry 12 Mar 2009 5:19am Teresa from Mountain View, United Statesnot at all a snow person but you make this look inviting. 12 Mar 2009 5:23am @Teresa: thanks teresa. i don't like snow either. Annie Viguié from Bordeaux, FranceI like very much the snow in the foreground, as egg whites beaten in snow! What I find magnificent also it is the writing " Farley elevator " on black bottom. With a very beautiful development by the light. 12 Mar 2009 5:47am Matt Sutton from Sydney, Australiabeaut softness here. delicate light here. curious name of business 12 Mar 2009 5:56am @Matt Sutton: thanks matt. the picture cuts out half the building - it's a grain elevator. cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelHow untouched those fields of snow look and how silent. This place does look so lonely and its walls are a palimpsest giving clues to its history. 12 Mar 2009 6:25am EYES WIDE SHUT from United KingdomGreat composition and use of textures here. Superb in mono, with a timeless quality 12 Mar 2009 6:56am Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomA scene that evokes history and landscape, and peoples impact upon it, good shot. 12 Mar 2009 10:39am dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesLove the black and white tones in the building. Nicely composed. 12 Mar 2009 12:17pm sherri from Little Rock, United StatesThis is a grand piece of history. Very nicely composed. 12 Mar 2009 12:27pm Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesI love the "colors" on the side of the barn. Subtle differences in texture that really come out in b/w. 12 Mar 2009 12:59pm Robert from Kingsville, CanadaIt's all in the details and you captured them in this excellent photo. 12 Mar 2009 1:26pm Thomas from Bangalore, IndiaIt looks so lonely and in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful capture 12 Mar 2009 2:18pm daina from New York, United StatesYour processing is so much a part of your compositions i.e. The snow is whiter in this image exactly where you want your focal point to be. You “arrange” your lights and darks so very expertly. I love the stillness in this image and the simple shapes that contribute to that stillness. 12 Mar 2009 2:29pm @daina: thanks daina. i appreciate the comment. it's funny though - i don't really think of my processing as anything but trying to eliminate sources of errors. Marcie from United StatesEspecially love the processing here..the softness of the blacks and whites and greys. Intersting place. 12 Mar 2009 2:55pm Don from spokane, United StatesA fine black and white image. Daina is expressing some of the thoughts I'm sure many of your viewers think about. Very nice shot today. 12 Mar 2009 4:38pm @Don: thanks very much don Bill from Belton, United StatesA most unlikely business in Farley, it would seem. I wonder, do they build them, or maybe install them, or perhaps repair them? Could it be this is just the front office for a grain storage facility? Such a mystery! BTW, an image of perfection Grant! 12 Mar 2009 5:51pm @Bill: hmmm. i have a feeling you know the answer bill. but, the correct answer is d, the office of a grain elevator... yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, GreeceI like the use of space and the framing - excellent b&w image 12 Mar 2009 6:17pm @yiannis krikis: thanks yiannis Suzanne from Huntington Bch, California, United StatesThis plain old barn becomes quite picturesque with the snow. Excellent image. 12 Mar 2009 7:37pm david from columbus, ohio, United Statesi'm guessing it's a grain elevator (wahtever that is)? either way...it makes for a wonderful photo. 12 Mar 2009 8:16pm @david: yep, storage for local farmers, right next to the train tracks. Kurt from San Francisco, United StatesOooh, love this one. Stark, empty, soft, beautiful. 12 Mar 2009 9:34pm @Kurt: thanks kurt kerfendal from Paris, Francegreat variation in grey, I like the snow in front of the barn 12 Mar 2009 9:39pm paolo from Castelnuovo, Italyi like the close up of the building. it's a great compo with that vast space on it's back 12 Mar 2009 10:57pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesThis is certainly an odd place for an elevator factory, but it does have very good scenery in winter. 13 Mar 2009 12:28am @Howard F.: :-) michele from Canadai could spend a good long time looking at the paint marks and textures in that metal wall. and the crimp in one edge - that's a great detail. 13 Mar 2009 2:05am Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesAnd his brother didn't even leave footprints in the snow. 17 Mar 2009 10:19pm |
