JamesC from portland, United StatesLove the shadows adds depth and interests for me. 26 Mar 2009 5:19am jpla from St Barthélémy d'Anjou, FranceAu risque de me répéter, j'adore tes N&B. 26 Mar 2009 6:10am GJC from Kyoto, JapanOK, now this is fantastic. The crucifixion of the wires. And the shadow repeats the form on the side of the building -- wow. 26 Mar 2009 6:28am Stovepipe from Ames, Iowa, United StatesGreat geometry with the pole and shadow. And I think this might be the first time I've seen vehicles parked in any of your shots. :-p 26 Mar 2009 10:44am Polydactyle from Montreal, CanadaI love this view almost symmetrical. Great lines! Well done!! 26 Mar 2009 12:16pm Alex from Barcelona, SpainBuena composicion y simetria, me gusta mucho parece un robot con los brazos abiertos a punto de tacar la casa. 26 Mar 2009 1:19pm cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelFantastic photograph. I really like your title too and "reading" the image via it's title - the wires are transformed into the shadow, which transforms the space of the hut, and the wires and poles themselves transform the frame into many little frames. Excellent. 26 Mar 2009 2:16pm Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesPowerful, Grant. That sky adds weight to the scene. 26 Mar 2009 3:10pm Marcie from United StatesExcellent composition. Love the near-perfect symmetry and shadow. 26 Mar 2009 3:14pm don from Spokane, United StatesYou've created a fine composition here. I like the sheen on the devices power lines. This also has a fine range of black and white tones showing solid shooting, processing and presentation skills! 26 Mar 2009 3:20pm daina from New York, United StatesA writer, and now I don’t remember who, apologized for writing a long letter because he did not have time to write a short one. And so often I feel in a similar fashion that to say what I feel or have a nebulous idea about would take an inordinate amount of time to clarify and put into words. This image feels as if the pole with transformers on it is containing or stopping everything from bursting out of that frame or conversely stopping one from entering into it. Or something like that. It has a lot of force to it and every element in the image is contained behind it. A very strong and effective image Grant! 26 Mar 2009 4:01pm @daina: i like that story. it reminds me of an old professor who handed our papers back, and told us to "cut them in half, but don't leave anything out." i feel at a loss for words most of the time - at least about photos. i admire your ability to write about them. and thanks for this comment. observing from North West, United KingdomIt's interesting to see how these everyday items differ in different countries. As for the image, it's a wonderful shot of power, good shadows too. 26 Mar 2009 4:46pm yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greecea cross with technology elements - very nice image with a lot of meanings 26 Mar 2009 4:46pm Annie Viguié from Bordeaux, FranceI like the shadow of the post and the threads on the wall of the house, I also like very much the light on the tubes of metal hung on the threads and I like the a little ruined post which tilts a little ! 26 Mar 2009 5:59pm Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomLike a scene from a 50's B movie, I expect these electric installations will attract aliens to land in the car park 26 Mar 2009 7:26pm ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesLike a scarecrow, with scarecrow shadows. best...jerry 26 Mar 2009 8:07pm dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesExcellent shadow. Old crooked pole! and all the white cars were very cooperative for a b/w image. 26 Mar 2009 9:57pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesFunny how the power lines mimics the shape of the roof. You can see a face if you stare at it long enough :-) Nice shot. 26 Mar 2009 10:02pm sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesNice, rich shades of grey. I always like power lines. 27 Mar 2009 12:33am michele from Canadai see you've decided not to let Daina get the better of you with metal in the photographs. okay i say that respectfully and with gentle humor so i hope i haven't offended you. couldn't resist the tease though after you mentioned metal and blown out reflections. teasing aside to me this image is about coming and going - the wires coming and going both in the foreground and background - the road going around the corner - and the vehicles parked but looking ready to go. even the shadow is just passing through. powerful image. 27 Mar 2009 1:22am @michele: i know you're kidding michele, but don't get me started, restarted, on the whole metal thing. this shot is an example of what i find so frustrating. Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesSuper shot Grant. I like the repetition of the shadow on the building. 27 Mar 2009 3:15am ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesPS: Got your snowshoes handy? 27 Mar 2009 3:16am @ordinaryimages: can you believe it... bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaI love how the pole, wires and transformer act as an urban tree...this is cool! 27 Mar 2009 4:14am dik from McAllen, United StatesNice detail from the foreground to the sky, especially the tar on the pole and capacitors. 27 Mar 2009 2:09pm Denis from the edge of my blackhole, KiribatiI like all the power that gets out of this image and its lines 27 Mar 2009 3:42pm |
