JamesC from portland, United StatesInteresting that I could see through the fence and see the truck. I like how you place the fence a 3rd from the bottom and parallels the wires. 30 Mar 2009 5:18am dik from McAllen, United StatesThe texture on the tree and the shadows on the street unites with the branches. A very fast and complex composition. 30 Mar 2009 5:20am GJC from Kyoto, JapanThe composition is very strong (as usual). I particularly like the wires which, combined with the fence, provide a barrier across the photo. Nice. 30 Mar 2009 5:44am ordinaryimages from Kentucky Bluegrass, United StatesDoesn't seem to keep the paparazzi out! best...jerry 30 Mar 2009 6:12am @ordinaryimages: i had a tip that brittany spears was inside. kerfendal from Paris, Franceseveral horizontal lines which cut the image give a sensation of peace, great mood there 30 Mar 2009 11:25am Marcie from Newton, United StatesInteresting how the bands of horizontal are bisected by the strong vertical of the tree. Wonderful graphic shapes in this!!! 30 Mar 2009 11:59am cat from Tel Aviv, IsraelBecause of the perspective and the huge tree, I feel like I am looking up in this picture - and the house is hiding, peering out over its protective fence. 30 Mar 2009 1:30pm daina from New York, United StatesThe forefront or bottom one third of the image is almost empty while the rest is crowded with elements which reminds me of a recent post of yours “Transformer.” And I get the same sort of feeling of everything contained behind something as if being held back. In this case it is the fence that does this while in the other it was the transformer pole. The electrical wires do the same for the top part of the image. You use empty space, mostly in front of your subjects to great effect. There is a feeling of almost something supernatural about this house as if something strange were hidden behind something very nondescript. That slight sense of unease is present in many of your images. 30 Mar 2009 2:09pm @daina: thanks daina. it's on the same street as 'transformer' and 'truck & van.' sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesExceptional straight on capture. It's melancholy. 30 Mar 2009 2:10pm don from Spokane, United StatesA fine title for this shot. I like the semi-transparent nature of this fence. The yard has a fine, huge tree which seems to dwarf the house. Fine image. 30 Mar 2009 3:43pm Didier DE ZAN from somewhere, FranceI like this composition and all the different lines Beautiful BW 30 Mar 2009 3:53pm yiannis krikis from thessaloniki, Greeceexcellent framing - I like very much the scenery 30 Mar 2009 4:51pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesHaha, what a great choice for privacy screen. 30 Mar 2009 8:17pm Richard_Irwin from Belper, United KingdomI love the starkness of the reality portrayed in your images, these places you photograph are brought to our attention with a lot of skill and craft 30 Mar 2009 8:26pm @Richard_Irwin: thanks very much richard lisa v from Gawler, AustraliaI like that fence, it's in good condition too. Interesting house with all those windows at front, reminds me of an enclosed verandah..normally, in aus, we would have that kind of structure at the back of the house. What is that fence made of? 30 Mar 2009 8:53pm @lisa v: i'm not sure lisa. there was a dog roaming around who looked like he might have enjoyed me for dinner. i took a shot and left. it seems to be a semi-flexible kind of stuff. i imagine it could be rolled. paolo from Castelnuovo, Italyin the owner's mind this might be a fence against the community.. a kind of mistrust to collectivity. 30 Mar 2009 10:12pm Matt Sutton from Sydney, AustraliaVery strong image Grant. This has a real sense of hidden secrets almost. I am curious how you felt emotionally when you came upon this place and when the photo was taken. 30 Mar 2009 10:24pm @Matt Sutton: thanks matt. i've have very mixed feelings about this place - basically the same mixed feelings i have about a lot of places where i take pictures. on one hand i just like it, visually, in a way that i don't usually like new or big places. on the other hand, this is a pretty rough looking area. houses and industrial sites sit next to each other. i sympathize with the owner trying to carve out a separate space. i hope this answers your question (maybe more than you bargained for). dogilicious from Millerstown, PA, United StatesInteresting. People who have fences like this always seem to be hiding something -is this your house? LOL. Great shot. The fence does add to the geometry as well as the way the power lines at the top ar perfectly parallel. 30 Mar 2009 10:57pm observing from North West, United KingdomI have a feeling that we are being watched from those dark windows.... did you hear any screams.... maybe he still has hold of the axe :-0 Great and interesting shot Grant, but who would live like that? 30 Mar 2009 11:59pm @observing: no screams, but there was a mean looking dog who seemed interested in me. Sidney from Manila, PhilippinesCute little house....some impressive trees in the garden. 31 Mar 2009 1:28am Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesA fabulous balancing act with all of the angles and lines. Very well composed. 31 Mar 2009 1:42am EYES WIDE SHUT from The library of my soul, United KingdomSuch a neat shot, Grant. An observation of modern times as we build the walls ever higher to keep eyes and limbs out of our turf. Community spirit, huh! 31 Mar 2009 3:25am Matt Sutton from Sydney, AustraliaThanks for the reply comment Grant, and I enjoyed your feedback immensely. I truly believe how we feel inside can be portrayed in our images 31 Mar 2009 9:27am bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaWow! This is just amazing Grant! The dark windows, the tree up front and that fence are the most unwelcoming sight one can imagine. Strong image! 31 Mar 2009 12:34pm Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesFabulous look to this. The "slats" are some kind of hard plastic like you find in a "venetian blind." I see these fences all over the place but not in this good condition. Usually the plastic --which I think gets brittle from UV and breaks easily-- is broken and missing in many places. Or, on closer examination, maybe those aren't the same kind of plastic strips I usually see run through chain link fences. Is this something rolled on the outside of the fence? 31 Mar 2009 10:30pm @Twelvebit: thanks. i think this is exactly the stuff you're thinking about. @Lucca: thanks lucca. and, yes, i do scan the negatives. michele from Canadaalso a favorite. looks like many of the houses in my neighborhood - i photograph them often but don't post many of them - or haven't recently. anyway i like your head on angle choice here. 6 Apr 2009 10:40pm |
