There is something majestic about this empty sign and I think it is your angle and framing that makes it so - it seems to be for something grand not something long gone. The little sign next to it makes this sign suggestive in many ways – perhaps it is a reserved sign for the true believers to announce some revelation or a 2nd coming or the apocalypse :} Great shot Grant.

I spent a year in Kansas in the late '80s, as an exchange student in a family with a baptist church reverend. Haven't seen many Kansas photoblogs, so I'll be sure to follow this one.
