Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesWow..old church still in pretty good shape. We have some churches around Maine that are made similar to this one. 29 Jul 2009 5:43am Dulcie from Danville, United StatesA stark and lovely rendition of a stolid and stalwart building. Does it match the people in that state? 29 Jul 2009 5:57am @Dulcie: probably so dulcie. rhys from MontenegroLooks very authoritarian, the low angle of view exaggerates the hulk of the structure. First Class. 29 Jul 2009 7:07am Marcie from Newton, United StatesLove the light in this one...the contrasting bright white. 29 Jul 2009 12:07pm david from Columbus, United Statesi like the height built into this church; an interesting structure. 29 Jul 2009 12:40pm Reiner from Brensbach, GermanyThis is a beautiful building and quite different than the churches here in Germany. Love the play of light and shades in this very balanced composition. 29 Jul 2009 2:23pm @Reiner: thanks for the comment reiner. i haven't had other shots of this one up. in fact, i'm not sure i could find this church again. but, there have been other white, wooden churches. Claudia from Illinois, United StatesThis is beautiful in black & white. Nicely shot! 29 Jul 2009 4:49pm Fritsch from Berlin, Germany"Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus / Make me feel good inside / Got to be a chocolate Jesus / Keep me satisfied" (Tom Waits) 29 Jul 2009 5:37pm @Fritsch: thanks very much fritsch for all your comments. and, i always enjoy the lyrics. i think we have similar taste in music. daina from New York, United StatesI like the one huge cloud right over the pure white building – great angles and shadows. 29 Jul 2009 5:57pm Stovepipe from Ames, Iowa, United StatesI'll echo Rhys' observation. This takes me back to being a kid and having to repeatedly bathe in the hellfire fear of these supposed places of joy. The nicely centered cloud behind (did you wait for that before shooting the picture) makes it seem the more authoritarian, proper, part of the established order of things. 29 Jul 2009 6:34pm @Stovepipe: amen... i grew up in a liberal, permissive episcopal church, but my memories of it aren't pleasant - mostly of being bored out of my mind. as to the cloud, it wasn't a case of waiting, but of speeding to it before it moved. bluechameleon from Vancouver, CanadaHow interesting how the cloud is hovering about this church like a halo. 29 Jul 2009 8:20pm sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesSuch a tidy and interesting structure. I love the cloud overhead. 29 Jul 2009 9:46pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesI kid you not, if there is an entire community of homes here in So.Cal. with this cottage-craftsman design. I didn't read your title at first and thought it's a beautiful looking home. Really surprises that it's a church... Not even a cross on the highest point of the structure?! Great lines and shadow. 29 Jul 2009 10:40pm @Howard F.: modest midwestern protastants... Chris Parr from Jefferson City, United StatesThis is a really interesting building, at least for this area. I like the modular look of it. 30 Jul 2009 2:24am Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesChurch is not usually want I associate with Leavenworth. 30 Jul 2009 3:01am @Twelvebit: ture, but i think a lot of guys find religion in leavenworth! Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesI love your strong shadows under those billowy clouds, Grant. Excellent! 30 Jul 2009 3:16am Bill from Belton, United StatesA perfect tonal rendering Grant! The light and shadows are so well balanced! 30 Jul 2009 3:42am GJC from Kyoto (京都), JapanWhat I especially like are the architectural massings you are able to point out though all of them are in the same color. Because it's so simplified this looks almost like an abstract -- or like how Edward Hopper stripped down compositions to very simple elements. 30 Jul 2009 6:05am dik from McAllen, United StatesThe value contrast in the cloud is like that of the house. Gorgeous image. 4 Aug 2009 2:30pm |
