rhys from BelgiumA sign of the times? Love the light catching the sign, like the last rays of hope. 31 Aug 2009 6:47am Dulcie from Danville, CA, United StatesI don't know why, but this made me smile ?? Anyway very nice image with a spare lean look. 31 Aug 2009 6:55am @Dulcie: i'm glad to hear it. others found it sad, but i don't. Alex from Barcelona, SpainSoberbio DOF!!! Me gusta mucho esas tonalidades en blanco y negro que logras en tus fotografias. 31 Aug 2009 7:57am sherri from Little Rock, Arkansas, United StatesLooks like a beautiful home. There are so many here that end up being rented because nobody can buy them. However, Arkansas' housing market hasn't been hit as badly as the rest of the country. Most are selling. Your capture is like a documentary shot. 31 Aug 2009 1:54pm dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesooh -- this is classic GBE material!! :) i love the light spilling in on the right -- wonderful work Grant, wonderful! 31 Aug 2009 2:50pm Don from spokane, United StatesA fine shot of this nice looking house for rent. Someone will have a nice place to live. I like your viewpoint that gets the sign but leaves sufficient amounts of the house so we get a good understanding of the situation. Well done. 31 Aug 2009 3:11pm daina from New York, United StatesBecause this image contains elements that can be linked to current events some interpret it as documentary or as a social commentary while others focus on the artistic elements and consider that component as incidental. Both are valid of course. I love the spindly “legs” of the sign and the beautiful side light on the grass. 31 Aug 2009 3:12pm Stephen Phillips from San Francisco, United StatesI love the light upon the sign, Grant. This is so much like the house I grew up in - it's uncanny. 31 Aug 2009 3:19pm Fritsch from Berlin, Germany"Tell 'em that the house is not for sale / We're still livin' here, how come nobody can tell / They're takin' all the furniture, movin' our things / Come on little honey, put your head on my knee" (Ryan Adams) 31 Aug 2009 5:51pm Stovepipe from Ames, Iowa, United StatesSo much sadness and hope implied in this simple scene. 31 Aug 2009 8:29pm Polydactyle from Montreal, CanadaI rent it! I look now for rent a house. Thank for the phone number :) Beautiful compo and b/w... again! 31 Aug 2009 9:21pm Marcie from Newton, United StatesSo perfectly simple. Love the composition and clarity. 31 Aug 2009 9:34pm Howard F. from South Pasadena, Calif., United StatesI called and the rent is too high :) 1 Sep 2009 12:39am Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesCan't sell the house so they have to try and find a renter....who will ultimately slowly wreck the inside....sad but true....this is our new American real estate. Cool shot :) 1 Sep 2009 1:01am Lucca from Cologne, GermanyYou take a picture of any sign – and the picture looks like art. Unbelievable. 2 Sep 2009 8:54pm michele from Canadanoooooo. you beat me there. i finally bought a changing bag, a developing tank and chemicals. last week i loaded my old Canon T70 with b/w C41 process film - shot it off and then threw it in the b/w chemicals just for fun. and came out with an image so much like this one. except the sign says "For Sale" instead of "For Rent". it was uncanny how similar some of the images were to some of yours and i've been debating about posting them. 5 Sep 2009 2:08am @michele: i hope you do post them. i'd love to see them. i'm surprised the c41 came out in the b/w chemical at all. i guess it's like xpro'd b&w... Luis A. De Jesus R. from Mexico City, MexicoRedolent of the for sale signs so prevalent in many communities across America. Renting, the path many should of stuck to instead of waisting time and money on loans the banks tricked them into and perhaps they should never had yielded to --had they known better. Yet "owning" is the defining score of acomplishing the fleeting American dream. I really like this image: so simple, yet so striking. 6 Sep 2009 9:02pm dik from McAllen, United StatesLow perspective with the planes angled, stepping into the composition is quite effective. 13 Sep 2009 12:48pm |
