I think a mix of metal and wood is always an interesting subject, regardless of the form they take. 22 Sep 2009 12:31am dj.tigersprout from New York City, United Statesthe wooden box just below the metal one is strangely appealing to me -- not sure why... and the bokeh in the background is so soft -- beautifully done! 22 Sep 2009 1:19pm Lambspun from Madison, Maine, United StatesSmall old dusty boxes of different sizes make me smile :) I love boxes! I like this black and white very much. Nice shot. 22 Sep 2009 8:04pm Kurt from San Francisco, United StatesLove the textures on the boxes, lots of depth and detail--great shot 23 Sep 2009 2:52pm Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesMy guess is that this "Arrow" was the Arrow Food Distributor company bought by SYSCO in 1970. Since SYSCO is a restaurant/institutional distributor, I'd guess that's what Arrow was doing, and this was something packaged for restaurants or hospitals. 24 Sep 2009 10:20pm @Twelvebit: any idea what this particular product was...? it sounds a bit disgusting. Twelvebit from Victoria, United StatesOK, here's what I've got. No entry anywhere, including the OED, for bruisettes. However, according to the OED, bruisse is another spelling for brewis. Derivative from the Old French brouetz --very "bruisette" if you ask me. Brewis, btw, is pronounced "broose." The definitions run: 1) Broth, liquor in which beef and vegetables have been boiled; sometimes also thickened with bread or meal; 2) bread soaked in boiling fat pottage, made of salted meat. So, my guess is something like #1, but I guess we'll have to fill out the concept with our imaginations. 30 Sep 2009 4:30am @Twelvebit: wow - i appreciate your effort! i hadn't thought of going to the oed, and your explanation makes sense. but, this is a subject where i want to reign in my imagination... |
