just marvelous -- that single telephone or electrical wire makes this shot for me... that wonderfully arched line -- draw the whole thing together -- the 'short' house, the contrast of the dark bushes and trees behind to the pearly white of the paint... and the foreground stretch of rough grass... beautifully complex!!

Very aerodynamic! Looks undone or in the process of moving somewhere.

@Howard F.: it does now that you mention it. it's been right there for a very long time though.
Wathena, that's a town I haven't visited in Kansas (so many I've yet to see), though I've been through Atchison, in the northeast reaches of the state. Your photos make want a road trip through the scenic banks of the Missouri River.

@Dave: wathena is northeastern also. this was taken after our twice yearly visit to the sparks, ks flea market. my girlfriend/partner is from atchison, and we go there fairly often. now you've got me thinking of a road trip too.
You are the "shed-man" Grant. Another wonderful exposure from you again. love the deep richness of the tones again here. Are they spider webs in the tree?

@Matt Sutton: i do like every variety of working building. now about your question - if those were spider webs, i'd have been afraid to park my car, much less take this photo with a moderately wide angle lens. it's some sort of fungus, i think.
Oh my god, are they? They have massive webs in trees in queensland and new south wales, completely freaked me out when I went there. What a cute little shed. Why is it raised?
24 Sep 2008 11:36pm
@lisa v: no, not spider webs. stuff like that only happens in australia. (see my response to matt, above.) now, i'm not sure why it's raised.
Wonderfully framed - love how the tree cuts into the simple shape of the shed and transforms it. Because the shed is raised it seems not quite permanent and a little humorous. This image has a light feel to it. Lovely crispness to the B&W
