Speechless Grant. This is beautiful. I just love the tree branch shadows on the house !

Perfect shadows and light! And the old house surrounded by huge trees seems everything an abandoned farmhouse should be. I really like this one Grant!

Very beautiful BW with this light and shadows in this place

nicely framed by the powerful tree. the house is quite wonderful rough with broken windows. fine clear shadows on the house.

Una gran fotografia, con un dramatismo, que la verdad yo no me acercaria a ese caseron.

The constant struggle between man and nature, goemetry of the house and hay bales. The shadows from the trees seem to close in as the bales appear synthetic. The passage of time permeates.

Oh...I think this is one of my favorites. Love how the trees frame teh old house..the quality of light. Wonderful mood you've captured/created.

@Marcie: thanks marcie
Another one of your very best. The softness of largely even light is a little different than the usual hard shadows in your other shots, and the trees and landscape, too, soften this image in a way without making it sentimental. I really admire this one a great deal.

@GJC: thanks gjc, i appreciate it.
Abandoned house and naked trees ! can't get much better g.

A very alive image Grant! It all shimmers with light and shade – wonderful…
17 Feb 2009 3:08pm
always amazes me the sheer number of empy but decent homes let to rot and moulder as i drive around. seems a shame somehow.
still, this is a lovely shot - as others have said the play of light and shade is lovely
17 Feb 2009 5:37pm
I like the scenery and the shadows
17 Feb 2009 7:04pm
such gorgeous lines in all of this - especially the tree limb shadows on the wall.
17 Feb 2009 10:40pm
Not long after John and me were married we bought a house very much like this and remodeled it. Your capture is stunning. Too bad they let it go.
17 Feb 2009 11:51pm
EXCELLENT!! All elements of the picture we suggest that this house is haunted.
18 Feb 2009 12:01am
@Polydactyle: thanks, and you could be right. i have no plans to return at night.
A porch like my grandma's house use to have. Hope you weren't expecting a tax refund --not something we have to worry about down here.
18 Feb 2009 12:02am
@Twelvebit: i'd like a house like this, in a little better condition. (and no, i never get a refund - i'm self-employed, so the sob's get me coming and going.)
Awesome B&W shot! Looks spooky though.

Hidden in the shadows so nicely for your capture.
18 Feb 2009 2:42am
It looked as though it was a fine place live, very nice Grant.
18 Feb 2009 3:05am
Fabulous composition and ambience to the shot. There is such a feeling of desolation, almost menace in the image, as though something bad has happened here other than the shattered dreams of those who left. A wonderful photograph
18 Feb 2009 4:38am
Another superb shot, full of sorrow and sadness, if only timber could talk.
18 Feb 2009 7:38am
Umm... another abandoned house, love it. My mind automatically delve into the generations that lived here and what must've been like, and why it's abandoned. Great shot.
18 Feb 2009 8:40am
@Howard F.: have i posted an abandoned house before? just kidding, of course. thanks howard.
I like it very much.... so american !

Beautiful! I love the lighting here - it is perfect. I love these types of structures, and this one is excellent.

Lovely sad image!

@lisa v: that's a great compliment. thanks lisa.
