LOL. What's this doing all alone out there? There's an absurdity about this image that I love.

A very commonplace thing to see a piece of farming equipment left in the field. This particular scene is exceptional in its contract of the white tank compared to the landscape. The sloping field is so attractive. Beautiful image, Grant.

@sherri: thanks sherri. i thought the ground looked particularly good. it was an unseasonable warm day, and a cover of snow had melted into the dirt.
I love the sense of scale - this could be a child's toy rolling down a hill and not a huge piece of farming equipment. I also like how it looks so strange, like a Mars explorer on a strange planet.

@cat: thanks cat. i think i had something of both those impressions at the time.
My initial reaction is to want to ride this beast !

loneliness, huge space and your special way to give a strange and soft light

@kerfendal: thank you kerfendal
Simple but almost surreal.

Agree with Cat and Mindy - it seems odd indeed with little relation to anything that one can see as if abandoned in the middle of nowhere. Terrific simplicity and again love the hint of humor and the composition.

Such a surreal image, Grant. The tank seems so out of place to my eye, although I'm sure it's right where it needs to be. What an image this is...!

I like the container shot. I suppose it's fertilizer related. My "youngster" days on a farm had nothing like this around! :-) Nice shot.

That mysterious and allusive horizon in Kansas. Deep and flat again!
1 Mar 2009 5:04pm
Perfectly simple! I can't help but marvel at the flatness of the never-ending landscape.
1 Mar 2009 6:03pm
Simplicity - transcended. Go, Grant!
1 Mar 2009 6:31pm
Good one! These are all over the place here, and although apparently they help with getting the fields ready I just don't get how putting hazardous chemicals on the land is a benefit. (But there is SO much about farming that I just *don't get*.

@martie: thanks martie. i know only enough to know i know practically nothing...
I'm sure this has some function in farming but it looks rather out of place. Nice capture.

Nice photograph I like it

Unusual find Grant! Nice shot. Like the contrast.

A stunning simplicity, but absolutely perfect in its quality and depth

@Richard_Irwin: thanks very much richard
Perfect! Machinery abandoned, one of my favortite subject.

the tank is cool but mostly i love the line where the earth meets the sky and how you've punctuated the line with that bit of bush on right.
2 Mar 2009 2:19am
Looks like a giant tictac on wheels! A bizarre but rather fabulous photograph, so perfect in mono. You captured this superbly, Grant

Can't think of anything to say without repeating myself --another transformation of the mundane. You make stuff into good photographs that I pass by because I don't think I can do anything with it. Maybe I need to spend more time looking through the lens --that does seem to help.

Great minimal shot. Makes me wonder what this tank is doing here in the middle of nowhere.
2 Mar 2009 8:14pm
what a great sense of place again
3 Mar 2009 6:05pm
you know its a great photo when you really wish that you'd taken it. this is one of those I wish I'd taken. Darn fine shot.

@RHYS: thanks very much rhys!
I love the sparceness. Great composition.
4 Mar 2009 1:59pm
great contrast here.

Feels like the sad little wagon that got left behind. Great shot.
