Wow, what a great looking house and a terrific fixer upper.

Is this inhabited Grant? It looks so lonely. Great strength here.

@Matt Sutton: no, it's empty, but right next to a new, large house. i'm guessing the same people own both.
I like shadows !

I really enjoy these old places you show us. That front porch Mansard roof is quite incredible! I have no doubt the original builders would be amazed to see it there now.

looks a great place and not abandoned for too long by the looks of it...i wonder why it was abandoned?

Fantastic shapes and angles created both by the architecture and by the shadow and light. Excellent!

This shot looks very good with the wide range of tones you captured. A fine place to shoot.

that little light adds a lot to this one, almost like it is floating

The front porch makes the house look like it's wearing a hat pulled low over its eyes. The house looks so still and lonely but not sad. As usual your shadows are gorgeous.

This is very odd construction as if an older house had an addition added to it that was more modern. The roof appears new so I'm assuming it is being rehabbed. Really interesting shot.

I really love this house !

very nice lighting and shadows - a peaceful image

Such clarity in this capture and the house looks like it was quite the showplace in its day.

i like very much the design of this house, always your white plan with infinite of greys

The house with a hat, and a very fine hat it was. best...jerry

What a great old house and love the look of that front porch with that very cool roof over it. Looks like a great place to pull up a chair and have a cold one.

Another beautiful and curious find. Such a nice house, why is it abandoned? Perhaps it looks like Pizza Hut???
16 Apr 2009 12:51am
this one doesn't feel sad to me - certainly the abandoned feeling comes through but it looks like it's been neatly packed up not fled in a hurry. like people left because they had a better place to go to.
i like how the shadows and the wire seem to 'anchor' the house. this is reading way too much into a photograph to me it feels like if it weren't for the shadows and that wire the house would 'float away' too to a better place.

@michele: michele - i think you've figured it out. i'm not sure, but from the looks of things, the owners moved into a modern house that they built next door.
Nice, you got the umbilical power line in this one again. :-) Actually fairly inviting as abandoned houses go.

A great old house Grant! I would like to live in one like it!
16 Apr 2009 3:15am
@Bill: me too - if i could just move it a little closer to civilization.
Is it really abandoned? Emotion in this picture.
16 Apr 2009 9:00am
@Denis: it's empty, but i don't think abandoned.
Love the lines and angles of this house, and your capture. Strong in it's singular stance against the elements that may come it's way, fighting them alone.
As you can tell...I find this shot emotive.

beautiful and old -- its as if i am looking back in time!

That looks a fine house Grant, and I like the shadows cast on the panels.
17 Apr 2009 11:05pm
Interesting design. I haven't seen a house like this. I like the solitude shown here.
18 Apr 2009 11:51pm
the build new beside the old house is typical for farm families here - we see this often. and it's logical - lots of land - when the money is there for a new house it's built - but no need to tear down the old one as it holds many memories.

nice capture..!im realy like this..

I was reading your other comments. I would have fixed this one up instead of building a new house.

Grant, I love this house. The trees are like feathers on top of the hat. I can see a child standing on the porch with one hand on the column.

@Pat Tucker: i'm glad you like it pat. the new house is right next to this one.
